A lot of good stuff out in the last few weeks - new albums by Richard Hawley, Beach House, Best Coast, The Cribs and reissues by My Bloody Valentine.

Discovered an interesting covers album today on Soundcloud, Orchestral Variations Vol. 1, and Paul is on the #3 track. The official release is July 5, but you can listen to the full thing now: http://soundcloud.com/separate/sets/orchestral-variations-vol-1/s-JI5uU

Quite a few nice pieces under this link. Some sounds very "music for a movie" but there are some beautiful piano pieces. Hats off. :D

Emmy the Great. I know I first heard of her years ago but never listened to her and forgot about her completely. Spotify Radio came across her for me today and I really like what I've heard so far.

I was in Brighton at the weekend, I saw no starlings.

... Chop Chop by Bell X1(streaming live on the Paste Magazine website http://bit.ly/10Rkhvj. I just got through my first listen. First impression is that I am not overly impressed. I had heard The End is Nigh, Motorcades, Careful What You Wish For, and Starlings Over Brighton Pier before the album came out and I like three of the four a lot. I'm not going to make a judgement on the entire album yet as I feel that I have prematurely done that before, and forced myself to eat my words later on.

Sandymount strand everyone (long time no sea). Low (C'mon), The Great Balloon Race (Cardboard), Idiot Songs (Natasya's Tears, patiently awaiting the record: taster... https://soundcloud.com/pearsemcgloughli ... syas-tears ). Actually, link, Balloon Race until recently shared a bassist with Altered Hours who are first on the bill at the Marquee next Thursday. Get in early. They're great.
