Cinema Paradiso

A thread for those movies that (maybe) not everyone has heard of but we think are good and should be mentioned.

Just watched "2 days in Paris". quite funny.

this is a cool idea for a thread.

Here's my contribution to it, Eastern Promises. It's not a light film, but watching Viggo Mortensen is amazing.

I may sound like an idiot but I must say, I don't see the appeal in films. I watch a full film once every month or two. And it's usually My Left Foot (for school).

They range from pure visual/audio entertainment, to rather detailed works of art. Personally, I'd have trouble excluding anything purely by its media type, though I would admit that I do seem to make more time for music than films or images.

Haven't seen that one yet. But it sounds very promising. Yes people, JCVD is back...

you don't sound like an idiot. you just don't have an interest in movies. the same way i don't have one in operas, golf or the ploughing championship.
unusual though. i don't know that many people who don't like watching films. whatever the genre.

The Savages! YES! I saw that one with my mom, she made me swear i'd never put her in a nursing home.

Brick -Is it good? I've heard really good things about it.

Thanks! That's reassuring. But don't knock ploughing! This is me: Image

Not really!

I went to American Gangster and by 11:00 (in the evening) I had fallen asleep in the cinema. Plus, I can't keep still, I find my legs shaking wildly and I quickly lose interest. It's not that I'm fidgety, I just don't like watching a film for 2hrs at the best of times.
I'm a bit of a sucker for American Football films: Friday Night Lights, Remember the Titans and Any Given Sunday would be films I'd watch if I were very bored. It's possibly a very clichéd genre(?) but my preference to watching a match over a film would mean that watching an American Football film provides me with the best of both worlds. Even at that, I'm hardly an obsessive fan by a long long mile. British football films are chronic.
Not the Longest Yard though, what a crap movie!

My favourite film of all time would possibly be The Green Mile. But that's from my limited experience. Or maybe the Shawshank Redemption or the original Escape From Alcatraz. Ha! All films relating to prisons!

Ha, yeah "The Savages" would definitely put you off nursing homes. Though the one in the film wasn't that bad, it was more that the guy's children had a problem with it because they felt guilty. Great film :)

"Brick" I saw a while ago. Wasn't sure about the premise (detective story in a high school), but it kept surprising me and I ended up really liking it. Plus Joseph Gordon Levitt is in it...

Yeah. I used to love it, then I got bored with it. Miss it now it's gone though.
