Everything -- from the epic sound to the lightshow -- is geared for a bigger stage. A support slot with U2 at Croke Park maybe?

I don't know about the croker but i certainly thought that they have what it takes now to face big big crowds. I could picture The Great Defector at a major stage at Oxegen or the EP and it would be perfect. They're well ready to leave a lasting print in any festival mud! :D

Three or four mentions for the lads in today's Day and Night, including another very positive review of Monday's gig:

woo hoo, I decided to go again tonight and it was BRILLIANT !!!

they showed the new video they made for Broken Umbrella - so cool...

Setlist was...
Better Band (much better opener than Amelia last week!)
Alphabet soup
Bad Skin Day
How ur heart is wired
First born for a song
Eve
Amelia
Great Defector
Tongue
Flame
Breastfed
Rocky

Encore...
Some Surprise (with Lisa Hannigan! nice one!)
Broken Umbrella
One Stringed Harp
I'll see your heart

Plus a bit of stevie wonder's 'happy birthday' for some chick called Louise!
Plus a snippet of Morrisey/the smiths

then on the way home my taxi driver had not only HEARD of the bellies (unlike last weeks easy listening fan... don't ask...) but he said he really likes the new song, it reminds him of Talking heads (ho ho) etc etc.... What a night!

I was told by Brians brother before the gig in leisureland that it was gonna happen that night and it never did so I've been hoping it would ever since :(

It was brilliant, as was the cover of There Is A Light That Never Goes Out :D

Didn't think the atmosphere was as good as last week, too many talkers, especially during Amelia, but still a great gig.
I loved Paul's intro for Breasted - he talked about Pat Mustard and UHT milk - "there's no demand for that because it's shite." A Better Band was brilliant again, even though it didn't get the reaction it should have.

Ah yes thats the one! One hilarious bloke near me can't have been to Bellies before, didn't realise it was a cover and thought Paul was making up new words as he went along...

I'm thinking Better Band is my new favourite. I can't believe no one has made up a silly dance yet to go with the 'shoot fire from my hands' line. Next gig folks, I want to see some hands in the air up the front, all right?

Found a video of Some Surprise with Lisa:

Apparently, they played The Curtains Are Twitchin' at the last Vicar St. gig. :(

found that video of HYHIW. Very good quality. don't know if it's been posted here before. obviously shot by someone close to them considering the angles.

They had a brass band with them on the Holy Thursday gig. It was fantastic  . I must upload it to youtube and give a link when I get a chance.

It's not from really close up because I was standing up on the balcony directly in front of the stage. The zoom on my Nokia N95 isn't the greatest in the world but it'll do. :D

that was a brillllllllllllllant and lovely piece of writing/ review of gig natalie... all thats left to say is " I Miss Brian Crosby " 2 ! and i find his missing presence on stage interrupts my appreciation of bellies music WHICH i might add IT SHOULDNT/ but in a less than perfect world it does.. nice review.
