The gig last night was awesome. Best gig I've been to this year.
The set included (in no particular order):
Eve, The Apple of My Eye
Next to You
Tongue
I'll See Your Heart And I'll Raise You Mine
Flame
Rocky Took a Lover
The Great Defector
Hey Anna Lenna
Velcro
Nightwatchmen
Sugar High
Built to Last
4 Minute Mile
Safer Than Love
The Trailing Skirts of God
And I've likely forgotten a few others.
The special highlights for me were Sugar High and 4 Minute Mile.

Great gig last night. Loved the new songs, especially Sugar Hugh, 4-Minute Mile and The Trailing Skirts Of God. Missed some old favourites, but I suppose it's inevitable as they want to play as much of the new album as possible.
Lovely gesture with the tickets as well. I want to go back tonight now!
PS: They also played Bad Skin Day

Encore:
The Trailing Skirts of God
Flame
Safer Than Love
Eve, the Apple of my Eye
Highlight for me was also Sugar High and 4 Minute Mile, but I also really enjoyed the audience participation in Eve. It was a pretty magical gig to be fair even if I did make the rookie mistake of standing right by the door near the bar where all the drunk people hang out.

My new favourite band are back!!!!
Best bellies gig I've been to in a good while.. unlike previous gigs I found myself wanting the new stuff and not caring a whole lot what older stuff they played.. only one Blue lights on the runway track played (no love lost there..) everyday I have a new favourite off Bloodless Coup or Bloodless Cough as I like to call it..
Only wish they could have played Haloumi.. definitely going to see them at some stage over the summer.. can't wait!!
THANK YOU BELLIES ya deserve a good rub

I had to laugh at one stage. One of the drunk guys behind me, midway through The Great Defector (Song #11 of the night), said "The first song of the night that I know" and jumped around for the rest of it before disappearing for the rest of the gig.
I was loving the new songs too but I was getting a small bit worried by Nightwatchmen that they were just gonna play the album straight through.
I love how Mr. Noonan was genuinely a little nervous about playing the new songs and the lads gratitude to the fans was in no way faked, totally sincere.
I also laughed at the fact that he managed to forget the lyrics to Rocky and Flame in parts. The sound was really crisp and clear too.

really liked the gig. even if it did feel like the first gig of the season. felt the same as goway. looking forward to the new songs and not the old ones. but i really got depressed by the crowd. it was dead. i don't know why i focused on that but i really felt on my own on that respect. bar for my mate who danced, and shouted and laughed and messed around with me, the rest felt very asleep. i don't know. weird. and not pleasant. felt detached as a result from the band. as if they were trying to lift the atmosphere and it simply wasn't taking off. anyway. i'll see your heart brought back some memories, sugar high was brilliant. 4 minute mile was amazing. it will be a landmark song at future gigs. yeah, that's ok... and i can still hear and feel that heart beating from Built to last. such an intro!
now. do play Haloumi in Marlay Park. i beg you... (never got ticket for trinity ball so not going to that unfortunately).

Was at the gig last night, and was epic.
Paul seemed nervous at first but also more confident than I've seen before if that makes sense, absolutely on form though. The new songs sounded great and went down well, trailing skirts of god sounded great and sugar high went down really well. Bu for me the highlight was the harmonys at the end of Eve, sounded really good and was great to hear a new take on a song we all know.
Was reminising about the Malahide gig a few years ago (my 1st Belll X1 gig) and was then delighted to hear Paul mention Marley park at the end.!! The crowd participated well, but there was the usual groups of drunks there for a chat. Stood at the front for once (got seating tickets last few times) and was glad I did.
Was lookign forward to Slane next but cant wait for Marley park now!!!
Its goona be an epic summer,.

GIG WAS AMAZING!!!!!! I'm still on such a buzz!
Can't say enough good things about it...........New songs were great live and at present i'm loving 4 minute mile and the trailing skirts of god though as always with Bellx1 I'll have a new favourite by the end of the day.
got me a setlist and a giant poster (didn't look so big last night) and a mug!
Setlist:
The Vicar 7/4/2011
Anna Lena
Velcro
First Born (great to hear this again)
Bad Skin
Built to Last
Rocky
Alphabet
See your heart
Nightwatchmen
Defector
Tongue
4 minute mile
Trailing skirts
Flame
Sugar High
Eve (the harmonies were beautiful and the crowd were all with them for this)
I've been a fan for a long long time and i'm also so impressed how the songs evolve....looking forward to seeing how the new ones will take shape
Bring on marley park

You got one of the GIANT posters?
Holy crap. I joked about stealing one on Wednesday night but laughed it off. Now I feel a little empty inside.

Set the scene: Phantism Night in Whelans 2007......shiv (a bit tipsy) trying to subtely steal a giant phantom poster.
Its such a struggle, she fails to notice the bouncer standing behind laughing his heart out!
Shock horror as she turns around slowly knowing she's been caught!
Bouncer: All you have to do is ask!
i know theres a thrill in getting away with stealing a poster but wasn't gonna work in vicar street or with a Giant poster and those days are behind me.....so i asked the bartender at last orders. He actually went and took it down for me so i didnt' look like a drunken eejit trying to pull it down. There were actually two with backs together so i gave the other one to my mate......sorry rocky....if only i'd known!

Stealing posters from venue walls is a must.

I nicked a big one from the Vicar St gig in 2000. Gave it to my ex when we broke up the following year as she really loved it. Was a cool poster. The yellow one with the two rabbits. Anyone remember it? Special prize for anyone who can tell me what the rabbits were saying to each other. There's a big clue somewhere else on the board if you kind of remember but have forgotten. Oh won't you tell us 'bout those rabbits, George?
