Last night in Boston

Judging by the amount of spam, I'm guessing no one comes around here anymore but...

I was at Lisa Hannigan's gig in Boston last night. I was just done explaining to my friends who Bell X1 were and that we were going to see them tomorrow night (now tonight). The lights went dark and Lisa entered stage left. In the corner of my eye, I spotted a lanky fella who seemed to be looking for someone. My eye was drawn to him and as he almost walked past, I confirmed that it was Paul Noonan. I had met him once before very briefly when I was 18 and was beside myself. I wasn't much better this time but I introduced myself and my wife very quickly before Lisa started. Anyway, he planted himself behind us for the gig with their sound engineer (I think).

Before Lisa finished, she gave Bell X1 a shout out which was pretty sweet because we felt like we were in on an inside joke. After the gig, we talked to the boys for about half an hour. Lisa was there too but she was talking to other people. I didn't get to meet Dave before but he is a very nice and friendly dude.

Anyway, the whole experience got me thinking about this board and how important this band has been to my life for the last 10 years or more. I tried to tell the boys all of that without coming off like too much of a fan-girl. I am not sure if I succeeded - I know I didn't with Dom.

The best part is that I still have the gig to look forward to tonight to kick off the US tour. They said they had played 3-4 smaller gigs in the last week too which is interesting.

(I come around from time to time to battle the spam. The machines seems to have overcome my solution from a few years ago.)

Nice to hear you met the lads over there! How is life in the States?

Life in the US rolls on, despite what you're hearing in the news at the moment. I hate the current political situation with the fire of a thousand suns but everyone will see sense eventually and it will all go away.

The lads were in top form last night and put on a great show, but it was somewhat overshadowed by an audience full of obnoxiously loud talkers. What seemed like half the crowd talked their way through the first 4-5 songs of the set but were somewhat drowned out by the noise of the songs. Then Paul announced they were going a little more mellow and it was about to get real smooth around here - a subtle signal to tell people to STFU. After the first verse of The Upswing, he had to talk through a verse of the song and ask for co-operation from the crowd. They did oblige for a couple of songs but then got very loud for Dave's song. It quieted down a bit after and the boys definitely rocked out from there on.

I pop around every so often, just not very often these days :-/

Caught the lads in Chicago at Lincoln Hall, good stuff as always! Been a few years before that since I'd seen them... Vicar St in 2013-ish maybe?
